2. Clarify the situation.
Make sure teams of people are focused and in agreement of the issue at hand. We've all seen solutions that were way off base because groups just weren't talking to each other. And for you agency folks, make sure you're asking questions. Clients/customers are always under time constraints, so make sure your questions are meaningful.
3. The plan.
Discuss deliverables with the end in mind. If at the beginning phase, a deck, pre-sell images and list of all items are required, make sure everyone knows what's expected.
It takes a lot longer for an agency to develop finished looking concepts vs. sketches of rough ideas. Agencies are inherently wanting to impress audiences with the "Wow" factor. Here again, clarify how finished work needs to be for each round of deliverables. If it doesn't have to be perfect to be presentable, discuss it up front for the win-win.
